TROOP 56

LEADING YOUTH TO LIFELONG VALUES
Who We Are
Scouting has been a part of Roselle Park's history since its first troop, Troop 1, was chartered in Roselle Park in 1912. In 1926, Troop 1 became Troop 52 due to redistricting and has since become the Troop 56 that we know and love today.
Our young men and women continue to carry on the Scouting legacy within the Borough. We're proud to be a member of the Munsee District within the Patriots' Path Council in northern New Jersey.
What We Offer
Scout-led Meetings
Troop 56 meets on Monday evenings September through June at Sherman School. Scouts elect their peers to lead the Troop and form Patrols: a small team of Scouts that learns skills together, shares responsibilities and takes on leadership roles. Scout leaders set agendas for each meeting in which they learn a range of skills, including cooking, knot-tying, and first aid. They also host Court of Honor in recognition of each others' accomplishments over the course of the year.
Camping & Hiking
We camp as a troop at least twice a year in nearby Watchung and South Mountain Reservations. Over the weekend trips, Scouts plan, shop for, and cook all of their meals and organize hikes and other activities during the day. We also go on several day hikes during the year. Parents are always welcome to join us!
Klondike Derby
The Klondike Derby is a day-long competition for Scout Patrols held in mid-Winter that challenges their preparation and teamwork skills. Patrols move between 10-15 hands-on challenge stations designed to test the Scouts’ knowledge of fieldcraft.
Summer Camp
For one week each summer, the Troop goes to Scout camp at the Forestburg Scout Reservation in Forestburg, NY. While optional, the trip gives Scouts opportunities to get to know their peers, earn merit badges, and camp away from home.
Leadership & Volunteering Opportunities
In addition to leadership opportunities within Patrols and the Troop, the Munsee District provides several outside opportunities for Scouts to cultivate their leadership skills, including National Youth Leadership Training and Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops.
As a Troop, we work within Roselle Park to help better our community. We participate in Borough cleanups, serve pancakes at the annual Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast, and work with our local Cub Scout packs. Scouts also have opportunities individually to do acts of service.

Where We Meet
Due to COVID-19, in-person meetings will be held at the Roselle Park American Legion for the foreseeable future.
Meetings are held every Monday from 7pm - 8:30pm
